Botev Plovdiv has announced plans for the construction of a new stadium in a specially-held press conference today. The Board of directors of Botev, the vice-mayor responsible for the sports activities in Plovdiv Georgi Tityukov and the architect and project leader Georgi Stoev all stood in front of the media for the presentation and answering questions.
The new stadium, which will be built on the location of the current one, will be for 18 000 spectators, all-seated. Thus, the stadium should cover the requirements for a 3rd category UEFA status with all VIP-seats, 800 parking spaces, modern lights and everything else needed for staging European games.
The construction will take place in 4 stages - so the team would be able to play on the same place during construction. Only during the first stage - which will most probably start in the end of March - the team will host their games in the near-by village of Brestnik. In this period, the field will be changed with the most modern technologies for heating and drainage. A reconstruction of the Eastern stand will also take place. All work should end in August. After that the other three stands are going to be rebuilt in a step by step approach - the Southern, the Northern and the Central with all the VIP-stands. As a sign of the connection between the past and the future, the central facade will be kept and imported in the modern structure.
